River through town
A river runs along the valley floor, and the town's densest streets sit on its banks. It gives the poster a clear central line to read from.

Shuizhai Map Poster & Print
Shuizhai is the seat of Wuhua County in Meizhou, a prefecture in the hilly north-east of Guangdong known as a heartland of Hakka culture. On the map it appears as a concentrated town set in a valley. The land around it breaks into ridges, terraces and small settlements linked by winding roads.
The river running through the valley organises the town. Older streets sit close to it, while newer districts extend outward across the flatter ground, their blocks larger and more regular. Where the valley narrows, building stops and the hills take over, so the edges of the map are soft and irregular rather than straight.
A Shuizhai map poster shows a place that is rarely drawn at this scale. In black and white the pattern is easy to read: a dense centre, a river threading through it, and roads fanning out toward villages in the hills. For families with roots in Wuhua, it is a map of a hometown that many have left and still return to.

Valley core
The built-up area fills the flat ground between the hills, forming a compact block of streets that stands out sharply against the empty terrain around it.
Roads into the hills
Narrow roads leave the town and wind into the surrounding ridges toward outlying villages, adding fine, curving lines to the outer edges of the map.

Zakaj Shuizhai
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Eastern Guangdong has sent generations of people abroad and to the big coastal cities. A map of the home county town is a simple way to keep that connection in view, and it works as well in a flat in Shenzhen as in a house overseas.
Add a title in your own words, a subtitle with a family name or a year, and the coordinates line. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand to suit the room where it will hang.
