Snina lies in the far east of Slovakia, in the valley of the Cirocha river. From above, the town stretches along the valley floor, with the river and the main roads running roughly parallel through it. Wooded hills rise on either side, so the built-up area has a clear, elongated shape defined by the landscape rather than by any imposed plan.
To the south rise the Vihorlat Mountains, and the region to the north and east leads toward the Poloniny area and the borders with Poland and Ukraine. In the town itself, the historic manor house with its fountain and park is one of the best-known sights. On a map, the park reads as an open, softer patch among the streets of the centre.
