Sulphur Map Poster & Print
Sulphur lies in Calcasieu Parish in southwest Louisiana, just west of Lake Charles. From above it is a sprawling, low-rise city on flat ground, its streets forming a loose grid of residential blocks, commercial strips and industrial sites. Interstate 10 crosses the city from east to west, a dominant line on any map of the area.
The city takes its name from the sulphur deposits discovered nearby in the nineteenth century. Early attempts to mine them failed until the Frasch process, which melted the sulphur underground with superheated water, was first used here successfully around 1900. Today the area is home to petrochemical industry, and the Brimstone Museum tells the story of those early mining days.
A Sulphur map poster shows a city set in flat terrain, where roads, bayous and waterways do the work of giving it shape. Residential neighbourhoods, industrial areas and open land fit together in a pattern that is typical of the Gulf Coast, and in black and white it becomes clean and legible.

Residential grid
Neighbourhoods follow a loose, mostly rectilinear grid of streets, with curving suburban roads in newer areas. It creates a steady, even texture across the poster.
Bayous and waterways
Bayous and drainage channels wind through the flat land around the city, adding irregular lines that break up the grid and point toward the nearby coast.
