Surprise Map Poster & Print
Surprise is in the northwest of the Phoenix metropolitan area, in Arizona's West Valley. It is organised around the mile-road grid typical of the region. Large square blocks are filled with residential subdivisions, many with curving streets and cul-de-sacs. Grand Avenue cuts diagonally across the grid, following the old railway line toward Wickenburg.
The town was founded in 1938 by Flora Mae Statler, and its name is often said to reflect her surprise at the idea that it would ever amount to much. It grew rapidly from the 1990s onward and now has large retirement communities as well as family neighbourhoods. Surprise Stadium hosts spring training for two Major League Baseball teams.
A Surprise map poster shows the pattern very clearly: straight arterial roads at regular intervals, each large square filled with its own loops and curves, and Grand Avenue running at an angle through the middle. Toward the edges, the grid gives way to open desert and the mountains on the horizon.

Grand Avenue diagonal
Following the railway, Grand Avenue crosses the grid at an angle, giving the map a strong diagonal line against the otherwise square layout.
Curving subdivisions
Inside the grid squares, residential streets form loops, crescents and cul-de-sacs, giving each block its own distinctive pattern when seen from above.

Zakaj Surprise
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Surprise is where many people chose to start a family, retire or spend the winter. A map of the neighbourhood makes a personal housewarming gift, especially when the particular subdivision shape is recognisable.
You can personalise the title, the subtitle and the coordinates line, for example with a street name or move-in date. Five styles are available: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand suits the desert setting.
