Tamworth Map Poster & Print
Tamworth is in Staffordshire, in the English Midlands. The town grew at the confluence of the River Tame and the River Anker, and on the map both rivers wind through the south of the centre before joining. The castle stands on its mound just above the water, with the old town's compact streets close by.
Tamworth's history goes deep. In the Anglo-Saxon period it was a royal centre of the kingdom of Mercia, associated with King Offa. The sandstone castle, begun by the Normans, still stands in its riverside gardens. Later, Sir Robert Peel served as MP for Tamworth, and his 1834 Tamworth Manifesto is often seen as a founding text of the modern Conservative Party.
Beyond the old centre, large postwar estates and ring roads expand the town in every direction, and the A5, following the Roman Watling Street, passes to the south. A Tamworth map poster traces this story, from a river meeting and a castle mound outward into modern suburbs.

Castle and gardens
The Norman castle on its mound sits in open grounds beside the river. It forms a green, unbuilt space at the edge of the dense old town.
Ring of estates
Postwar housing estates surround the centre, with curving streets and cul-de-sacs. They give the print a busy outer ring around the small historic core.
