Lewisville Lake shoreline
Coves and inlets cut deeply into the land along the city's western and northern sides. They form a jagged, organic edge against the regular street pattern.

The Colony Map Poster & Print
The Colony is a city on the eastern shore of Lewisville Lake in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, and on a map the water defines it. The shoreline is broken into coves and fingers, so parks and streets end at the waterline instead of running to a straight boundary. Inland, the familiar suburban pattern of looping roads and cul-de-sacs fills the ground between the main arterials.
The city started in the 1970s as a planned housing development by the builders Fox & Jacobs. Its name comes from the Peters Colony, a nineteenth-century settlement grant that brought early Anglo settlers to this part of North Texas. That planned origin still shows in the orderly neighbourhood blocks, each set up around its own loops and courts.
A The Colony map poster puts the lake and the town side by side. The irregular water and the neat, repeated curves of the housing make a strong contrast in black and white, and the shoreline gives the composition a natural frame. It is a suburban map with more character than most, thanks to all that water.

Planned neighbourhood loops
Streets from the city's Fox & Jacobs era curve into loops and cul-de-sacs, repeating in tidy clusters between the larger arterial roads.
Parks at the water
Along the lake, green space and park roads reach out towards the shore, so there are open patches between the housing and the water.
