Organic street pattern
The streets follow the ground and the way people move through town, producing an irregular web of lines that reads very differently from a planned grid.

Tshilenge Map Poster & Print
Tshilenge lies in Lualaba province in the south of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a region of high plateaus, river valleys and savanna woodland that stretches toward the borders with Angola and Zambia. Mapped from above, a place like this is defined less by landmarks than by the relationship between its built-up streets and the vast, lightly marked land around it.
The street network is irregular and organic, shaped by use rather than by a formal plan, with roads and paths leading outward to neighbouring settlements and fields. Lualaba is best known nationally as a mining province, and its towns are connected by long overland routes that cross the plateau in wide, sweeping lines.
A Tshilenge map poster presents this with restraint: a cluster of fine lines at the centre, a scatter of tracks leading away and plenty of open paper around them. It is a portrait of a specific place for the people who know it, rather than a view made for visitors.

Routes across the plateau
Roads leave town toward the surrounding countryside, drawn as long strokes that stretch to the edges of the print and link the settlement to the wider province.
Open space
Large areas of land without mapped streets surround the town, and on the poster this empty space becomes part of the design, giving the centre room to breathe.

Zakaj Tshilenge
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
For family members living elsewhere in Congo or abroad, a map of Tshilenge can hold more meaning than any photograph. It shows home at the scale of streets and paths, the way it is remembered, and gives a little-mapped place the same care as a capital city.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a family name or a year. Pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The digital files are $9 with six print sizes included, and a free watermarked preview lets you check the result first.
