Wegeda lies in the Amhara Region of northern Ethiopia, on the high plateau that holds much of the country's farmland. The town serves as a local centre for the rural communities around it, and its layout reflects that role. Shops and services line the main routes at its core, and houses and compounds spread out from there into the surrounding landscape.
