Wenxing Map Poster & Print
Wenxing lies in northern Hunan, in the flat, wet country where the Xiang River approaches Dongting Lake, one of China's largest freshwater lakes. From above, water is everywhere. Rivers and channels curve through the land, ponds and paddies fill the gaps, and the town's streets are laid out on the drier ground between them.
The landscape here has been shaped for centuries by floods and by the embankments built to hold them back. The lake's size changes a great deal with the seasons, and fishing and rice farming have long been the main ways of living from this land. Wenxing serves as the local administrative centre.
A Wenxing map poster is as much about water as about streets. The town's grid sits within a pattern of river bends, straight dikes and countless small ponds, and the composition has a gentle, flowing character. It would suit anyone drawn to maps where the shape of the land comes from water.

Dikes and embankments
Straight flood-control embankments cut through the low land. Their firm lines contrast with the soft curves of the natural channels.
Pond and paddy mosaic
Countless small ponds and rice fields surround the built-up area. They create a fine, scattered texture across the edges of the map.
