Canal corridors
Wide waterways toward the port and around the city run near the district. On the print they appear as bold, calm bands next to the finer street network.

Wondelgem Map Poster & Print
Wondelgem is a district of Ghent, just north of the historic city. It was a separate municipality until it was merged into Ghent in 1977. From above, it looks like a typical Flemish edge district: rows of terraced and semi-detached houses on winding lanes, crossed by rail lines, main roads and the water infrastructure that surrounds the city.
Canals and waterways shape the area's outline. To the east lies the corridor of the canal toward Terneuzen and the port. The broad ring waterway that loops around Ghent passes nearby. Together they give the map long, smooth curves and straight stretches that frame the finer, more irregular streets of the old village core and its newer housing.
A Wondelgem map poster works on two scales. Up close, it shows the lanes and squares of a former village. Further out, it shows how the district fits into the ring of canals, roads and rail that binds Ghent together. It suits residents, people who grew up here before moving into the city, and anyone who likes the orderly look of Flemish waterways.

Former village core
The old centre of Wondelgem still reads as a small cluster of streets around its church. You can see a village layout inside the modern city.
Rail and road lines
Railways and main roads pass through the district in long, straight strokes. They divide the residential fabric into clear sections that are easy to read.
