Xinzhou Map Poster & Print
Xinzhou sits in the Xinding Basin of northern Shanxi, a broad plain drained by the Hutuo River and surrounded by mountain ranges. The city's map is a regular grid of wide avenues and large blocks, typical of recent Chinese urban growth, around a smaller historic centre. At the edges, farmland and villages fill the flat basin before the land rises toward the hills.
The prefecture named after the city includes Mount Wutai, one of the four sacred mountains of Chinese Buddhism and a UNESCO World Heritage site. It also includes the Yanmen Pass, a historic gateway on the Great Wall. The city itself is the administrative and transport centre for this mountainous region.
A Xinzhou map poster shows an orderly city in a wide landscape: a clear grid, a compact older core and the open plain around them. The composition is calm and balanced. It suits the restrained black-and-white styles and the larger print sizes, where the regular rhythm of the blocks is easier to appreciate.

Historic core
The older part of the city is a smaller, denser area of streets inside the modern grid, adding a finer texture at the centre of the composition.
Xinding Basin
The flat, farmed basin around the city appears as open ground crossed by country roads, and the surrounding mountains frame the wider landscape.
