Dense old centre
The heart of the town is a close weave of narrow lanes and short blocks. It is the darkest area on the poster and the part that has changed least as the town expanded.

Yavatmāl Map Poster & Print
Yavatmāl sits on a plateau in the Vidarbha region of eastern Maharashtra. From above, it shows a dense core of irregular lanes surrounded by looser, newer blocks. Roads leave the centre toward neighbouring towns, and the built-up area thins quickly into farmland. Nobody planned the outline. It grew along the main routes, and the map still shows where each stretch of road drew new houses toward it.
The town is the headquarters of Yavatmāl district, one of the major cotton-growing areas of Maharashtra. You can see that setting at the edges of any map of the place. The tight urban texture gives way to a wide pattern of field tracks and scattered villages. The town serves the countryside around it, and the countryside supplies the town.
A Yavatmāl map poster keeps only the lines: the knot of streets at the centre, the main roads fanning out, and the grid growing looser toward the fields. Without labels or colour, the drawing becomes an abstract study of how an Indian district town grows. For anyone who knows its roads, it is also an easily recognised picture of home.

Roads to the district
Main roads run out from the centre toward surrounding towns and villages. They give the map a loose star shape that organises everything else around it.
Edge of cotton country
At the margins the street pattern dissolves into farm tracks and open ground. This is the cotton-growing district that the town serves as its administrative centre.

Zakaj Yavatmāl
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
People hang a map of Yavatmāl because their family roots are there, because they went to school there, or because they started working there. A street plan says that quietly, without a photograph. It fits as easily in a flat in Pune or abroad as in a house in the town itself.
You can change the title, subtitle and coordinates line, so the poster can carry a family name or an important year. Choose from five styles (Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand), then download the HD files for $9 or order a printed poster, framed if you like.
