Bridges over the Tyne
The Tyne Bridge, the High Level Bridge, the Swing Bridge and the tilting Gateshead Millennium Bridge cross the river within a short stretch, forming a distinctive ladder of lines between the two banks.

Mapa
Gateshead Map Poster & Print
Gateshead sits on the south side of the River Tyne, facing Newcastle across a steep, narrow stretch of water. From above, the river bends through the gorge and several bridges cross it within a short distance, stacked at different heights. Streets rise sharply from the quayside, and the older core gives way quickly to terraced grids and later housing spreading south and east.
The riverside shows how the town has changed. Former industrial ground along the water now carries the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, set in a converted flour mill, and the curved glass form of the music centre beside it. On a map these read as clean shapes against the river, while the dense grid behind them records the streets built for workers in the nineteenth century.
A Gateshead map poster places the Tyne near the centre of the composition, with Newcastle's streets pressing in from the north and Gateshead's own neighbourhoods fanning out to the south. Further out, main roads and the A1 trace long lines across the edges, and Saltwell Park appears as a broad open space among the houses. The result is a map of two towns shaped by one river.

Quayside and Baltic
The south quayside, once lined with mills and works, now holds the Baltic arts centre and the music venue beside it, their outlines sitting right at the water's edge.
Saltwell Park
South of the centre, this large Victorian park opens a wide green space in the street pattern, with curving paths and a lake set among the surrounding terraces.
