Kafr Laha lies in the Homs Governorate of western Syria and is the principal town of the Houla area, a farming plain north-west of the city of Homs. On a map the town is a compact cluster of streets on rising ground, with neighbouring villages close by. All around it the land divides into small agricultural plots crossed by rural roads.
The Houla plain lies between Homs and the hills that stretch toward the coast, and it has long been farmed.
