Karamsad is a town in Anand district, Gujarat, on the flat, fertile plain known as Charotar. It lies close to Anand and Vallabh Vidyanagar, and on a map the three almost merge into a continuous built-up area linked by roads and railway lines. Karamsad itself combines a dense old core of narrow lanes with newer, more regular neighbourhoods around it.
The town is best known as the place where Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Deputy Prime Minister, grew up, and his family home is preserved as a memorial. Karamsad also has a well-known medical college and hospital whose campus occupies a large area on the edge of town. The wider district is famous for its dairy cooperative movement.
