Mapa
La Baule-Escoublac Map Poster & Print
La Baule-Escoublac lies on the Atlantic coast of Loire-Atlantique, along a wide bay that runs for roughly nine kilometres between Le Pouliguen and Pornichet. From above, the most striking feature is the smooth curve of the beach. Behind it runs a straight line of seafront buildings, and behind those comes a softer, irregular fabric of streets laid out through pine woodland.
The resort largely grew in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Pines were planted to hold the shifting dunes, and the old village of Escoublac was eventually abandoned to the sand and rebuilt further inland. That history is still visible in the plan: the older settlement sits back from the shore, while the resort districts spread along the coast in a looser pattern.
A La Baule-Escoublac map poster brings out the two moods of the place. The beach and promenade form one clean, sweeping arc, while the wooded quarters behind them look almost organic. In black and white, the empty ocean takes up a large, calm part of the sheet.

Seafront boulevard
A continuous road follows the beach from end to end. It draws a firm line between the sand and the densely built waterfront.
Pine wood streets
Behind the front, streets wind through the planted pine forest in gentle curves, very different from a grid and full of fine detail.
