Mapa
Lofthouse Map Poster & Print
Lofthouse lies between Leeds and Wakefield in West Yorkshire. On a map, it is defined by its position as much as its streets. Residential roads, closes and older terraces cluster around the main routes through the village. Just beyond them, the huge curving slip roads of the Lofthouse Interchange, where the M1 meets the M62, draw some of the boldest lines anywhere on the sheet.
This is former coal-mining country, and the landscape still shows it in patches of reclaimed land, rough open ground and scattered housing. Lofthouse Colliery is remembered for the 1973 disaster, when miners were trapped by an inrush of water. A memorial in the village commemorates those who died. The mining history is not always visible from above, but it explains why the settlement is shaped the way it is.
A Lofthouse map poster makes an unusual and striking image. On one side, a small grain of village streets. On the other, the sweeping geometry of a major motorway junction. The contrast between the two is what makes the sheet memorable, and it is a very Yorkshire picture: ordinary homes sitting right beside the routes that carry the whole region.

Village streets
Terraces, closes and newer estates form a compact residential cluster. Their small scale contrasts with the motorways around them.
Former coalfield ground
Open and reclaimed land around the village hints at its mining past. It breaks up the housing with quiet, irregular spaces.
