Mapa
Mariakerke Map Poster & Print
Mariakerke was a separate municipality until it merged into Ghent in 1977. Today it forms the city's northwestern edge. On a map it sits between the dense historic core of Ghent and the flatter, greener land of East Flanders, with the waterways around the city running close by.
Its structure is typical of a Flemish suburb that grew around an older village. A few long roads lead out of Ghent, and residential streets fill the land between them, some curving and some planned in neat loops. Parks, sports fields and patches of woodland leave open spaces between the housing.
A Mariakerke map poster shows that transition from city to countryside. Street density thins toward the edges and the canal lines give the composition firm boundaries. It suits anyone who lives in this corner of Ghent and wants a map centred on the district itself instead of the medieval centre.

Old village roads
A few older roads run out from Ghent through the former village centre, and newer housing streets branch off them.
Open green spaces
Parks, playing fields and small woods leave quiet empty areas between the housing, which give the black-and-white composition a sense of air.
