Melville Island Map Poster & Print
Melville Island lies off the coast of the Northern Territory, north of Darwin across the Clarence Strait. Together with Bathurst Island it forms the Tiwi Islands, and it is the second largest Australian island after Tasmania. Its shape is broad and irregular, with a coastline folded into countless creeks, bays and mangrove-lined inlets that give the outline a finely serrated look.
The island is home to the Tiwi people, who have their own distinct culture, language and artistic tradition, and the islands are Aboriginal land. Communities such as Milikapiti and Pirlangimpi sit near the coast, linked by roads through open woodland. Tiwi art, with its bold patterns and carved poles, is widely known, as is the islands' passion for Australian rules football.
A Melville Island map poster brings together a long, intricate coastline, the narrow Apsley Strait on the western side and a sparse network of roads crossing the interior. It is an outline defined by water: tidal creeks, estuaries and shallow bays. The composition feels large and open, true to the scale of the island itself.

Mangrove coastline
The coast is cut by tidal creeks and inlets fringed with mangroves. They give the island's edge a detailed, feathered texture that stands out clearly on the map.
Coastal communities
Small communities sit near the shore, connected by long roads across the interior. Their compact street patterns appear as small points of detail in a large, open landscape.
