Olching lies on the Amper river in the Fürstenfeldbruck district, just west of Munich. From above the river is the defining line. It curves through the town with meadows and wooded banks on either side, while residential streets spread out in quiet loops and cul-de-sacs typical of a Bavarian suburb that grew with the railway.
The S-Bahn line to Munich crosses the town and gives the map a straight, strong line against the soft curves of the river. To the east lies the Olchinger See, a bathing lake popular in summer. The town is also known locally for its speedway track, which has hosted international motorcycle races.
