Mapa
Orange Map Poster & Print
Orange, officially the City of Orange Township, covers only about two square miles in Essex County, New Jersey, and is hemmed in by East Orange, West Orange and South Orange among its neighbours. On a map its borders are almost invisible; streets simply carry on from one town to the next, forming the dense fabric of blocks typical of the older suburbs west of Newark.
Two long lines cut across that fabric. The Morris and Essex rail line runs through the city with stations at Orange and Highland Avenue, and Interstate 280 slices across it as a broad band. Main Street runs between older commercial blocks, and to the west the land begins to rise toward the first Watchung ridge, where the street pattern loosens and follows the contours.
In the nineteenth century Orange was a well-known centre of hat making, and the older blocks near the railway still carry traces of that industrial past. An Orange map poster captures a place that is small in area but intricate in detail, with every corner of the frame filled by streets, rail and the gradual climb toward the hills.

Interstate 280
The highway cuts a wide band across the city, its ramps and service roads contrasting sharply with the fine residential blocks on either side.
Rising toward the ridge
On the western side the ground climbs toward the Watchung Mountains, and streets bend and stretch with the slope, softening the regular pattern of the flatter east.
