Ridge-and-valley grain
The surrounding terrain follows the parallel folds of eastern Sichuan. Roads and waterways line up with them and give the whole map a clear diagonal direction.

Mapa
Renxian Map Poster & Print
Renxian lies in the rural northeast of Chongqing municipality, in the hilly country on the eastern side of the Sichuan Basin. The land here is folded into long ridges running roughly northeast to southwest, with broad valleys between them. On a map this shows as a strong grain: roads, streams and settlements all tend to line up along the same direction.
The town is small, and its streets gather along a main road with buildings packed close on both sides. Beyond the edge of town, the map breaks into a quilt of small fields, ponds and footpaths. In this part of China the hillsides are often terraced for rice and vegetables, and the curving field lines trace the contours closely.
A Renxian map poster is a portrait of this rural pattern rather than of a city. The compact core, the roads bending around hills and the scattered ponds give the print a loose, organic character. It suits people with family ties to the area who want a picture of home that does not look like anywhere else.

Main street
The town's buildings line a central road in a tight strip. It is the densest part of the drawing, and the rest of the map radiates out from it.
Fields and ponds
Small irregular plots and farm ponds cover the land between the hills. Their fine, curving lines turn the outer frame into a detailed rural texture.
