Sheptytskyi Map Poster
Sheptytskyi, known until 2024 as Chervonohrad, lies in the north of Lviv Oblast on the Western Bug, close to the Polish border. The Potocki family founded it in the late seventeenth century as Krystynopil, and its current name honours Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky. On a map the river curves past the town, with low meadows on its banks and a compact centre nearby.
The older core includes the Potocki palace and historic churches, but much of the plan dates from the Soviet period, when coal mining in the Lviv–Volyn basin turned the town into an industrial centre. Wide avenues, regular blocks of apartment buildings and industrial zones spread out from the centre and give the map a clear, planned structure.
