Sint-Genesius-Rode, known in French as Rhode-Saint-Genèse, is a municipality in Flemish Brabant just south of Brussels. It is one of the Belgian municipalities with language facilities, reflecting its large French-speaking population. On a map it is a leafy residential area of winding roads, large plots and patches of woodland, bordered to the northeast by the Sonian Forest.
The Sonian Forest is the most striking element: a large expanse of old beech woods crossed by straight paths and avenues that form a fine network on the map. Elsewhere the street pattern is irregular and green, with detached houses set back from quiet roads. The main routes toward Brussels and Waterloo are the few strong lines in the composition.
