Ţāmiyah lies in Egypt's Faiyum Governorate, in the north-eastern part of the depression, south-west of Cairo. From above, the contrast is immediate. On one side, a green patchwork of small fields is crossed by irrigation canals. On the other, the flat, pale desert that surrounds the Faiyum.
The town itself is a dense cluster of streets and houses, with roads linking it to Faiyum city and toward the Nile valley. A Ţāmiyah map poster shows how closely settlement follows water here.
