Ūttukuli is a town in western Tamil Nadu, in the agricultural belt between the plains and the Western Ghats. On a map it appears as a modest cluster of streets, denser at the centre where the older lanes meet, and opening out into a pattern of roads that connect it to nearby villages and larger towns.
The countryside around the town is shaped by farming. From above, the land is divided into irregular plots, many of them groves and irrigated fields, bounded by narrow tracks and the occasional tank or channel. The mountains to the west affect the region's climate, and on a wider frame the landscape begins to rise toward them.
