Vilankurichi lies on the northeastern side of Coimbatore, the large industrial city of western Tamil Nadu. On a map it reads as a place in transition. Coimbatore sits in a broad basin with the Western Ghats rising to the west, and the city is known for its textile mills, engineering works and chain of old irrigation tanks.
