Wichita Map Poster & Print
Wichita is the largest city in Kansas, and from above it shows the Great Plains at their most orderly: a square-mile grid of section-line roads running to the horizon in every direction. The Arkansas River cuts diagonally through that grid, and the Little Arkansas meets it just west of downtown. The two rivers are the only curves in an otherwise ruled landscape.
Downtown sits on the east bank, with the brick warehouse streets of Old Town nearby. Kellogg Avenue, carrying US-54, crosses the whole city east to west as a freeway. Parks and trails follow the river banks, so the water is lined with green on both sides.
Wichita is known as the Air Capital of the World because of its long history of aircraft manufacturing. At the confluence of the rivers stands the Keeper of the Plains, a tall steel sculpture by Blackbear Bosin. A Wichita map poster captures that meeting point and the huge grid spreading out around it.

Section-line grid
Major roads fall on the square-mile survey lines of the plains, which gives the outer city a regular pattern that runs out into the surrounding farmland.
Kellogg Avenue
The east-west freeway carrying US-54 runs straight across the city, a strong horizontal line through the middle of the composition.
