This Xichang lies in the far south of Guangxi, in the coastal lowlands that face the Gulf of Tonkin. It should not be confused with the better-known city of the same name in Sichuan. On the map the setting is low and level. The town's streets gather around a few main roads, and farmland presses in from every side.
Southern Guangxi is a subtropical region of paddy fields, ponds and small rivers that wind toward the sea, and that landscape shapes how the area looks from above.
