Pond clusters
Groups of ponds appear as small, clean-edged shapes scattered through the wooded parts of the municipality, a pattern characteristic of this part of Limburg.

Mapa
Zonhoven Map Poster & Print
Zonhoven lies just north of Hasselt in the Belgian province of Limburg, on the sandy soils of the Kempen. On the map it is less a single town than a centre with outlying hamlets, linked by roads that wander between woodland, heath and farmland. The built-up areas are loose and green, with gardens and tree cover filling much of the space between streets.
Water shapes the landscape more than the town's size suggests. Many ponds, some dug for fish farming over the centuries, lie in the wetter parts of the municipality, and small streams drain toward the Demer basin. Cycling fans know the name from the cyclocross races held in a deep sand pit near the centre, a course famous for its steep, sandy descent.
A Zonhoven map poster turns this mix into shapes: rounded pond outlines, the irregular edges of forest, and streets that follow old field boundaries rather than any plan. The result is calmer than a city map and more textured than open countryside, a portrait of the green edge of Flemish suburbia.

Heath and pine
Large areas of heath and pine woodland are almost free of streets, creating wide pale spaces that give the composition room to breathe.
Linear hamlets
Outlying settlements stretch along their roads as single rows of houses, so the map shows long, thin threads of building rather than compact blocks.
