Arcueil is a small commune just south of Paris, in the Val-de-Marne. On a map it looks dense and busy, with streets tightly packed across both sides of the Bièvre valley. The river itself is now mostly hidden underground, but the valley's slope still shapes how the roads climb and turn.
Its best-known landmark is the aqueduct of Arcueil-Cachan. The seventeenth-century Médicis aqueduct was later topped by a second, higher tier in the nineteenth century, and it still spans the valley. The composer Erik Satie lived in Arcueil for much of his life. The RER B line and the A6 motorway both cut through the commune.
