Baden Map Poster & Print
Baden lies about 25 kilometres south of Vienna, at the point where the eastern edge of the Vienna Woods meets the flat Vienna Basin. The Schwechat river comes out of the Helenental valley in the west and crosses the town. From above you can see the walkable old centre, the green mass of the Kurpark rising up the slope and the vineyards on the hillsides to the north and south.
The town's sulphur springs made it a spa since Roman times, and in the nineteenth century it became a summer retreat for the Viennese court. Beethoven stayed in Baden many times and worked on his Ninth Symphony there. In 2021 Baden became part of the UNESCO World Heritage site The Great Spa Towns of Europe, alongside towns such as Karlovy Vary and Bath.
A Baden map poster shows the town's clear structure: the river cutting in from the woods, the ring of parks and bathing complexes, the tram line toward Vienna and the regular streets of the Biedermeier-era centre. In monochrome, the contrast between the dense town and the forested hills to the west becomes especially clear.

Kurpark on the slope
The spa park climbs the hillside north of the centre, its paths and terraces forming a large, softly patterned green area on the plan.
Badner Bahn line
The historic interurban tram runs from Baden to central Vienna, and its route traces a long, direct line north through the towns of the basin.
