Bartlesville is a city in northeastern Oklahoma, lying along the Caney River in rolling country near the Kansas border. Its map centres on a compact downtown grid near the river, surrounded by residential neighbourhoods whose streets gradually loosen into curving suburban patterns. The city grew with Oklahoma's early oil industry and became the home of Phillips Petroleum Company, founded here in 1917. Downtown it is known for the Price Tower, a nineteen-storey building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1956, the only realised skyscraper by the architect.
