Brookfield lies just west of Milwaukee in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. From above, it is a classic postwar suburb: curving residential streets, cul-de-sacs and wooded lots fill the spaces between long, straight arterial roads laid on the old section-line grid.
Bluemound Road and Interstate 94 carry much of the traffic through the city. Along them sit large commercial sites, including the long-established Brookfield Square shopping centre. Away from those corridors, the map softens into neighbourhoods of winding lanes, parks and small ponds, with plenty of green between the houses.
