Bumpe is a town in the Southern Province of Sierra Leone, with roughly sixteen thousand residents. On a map it reads as a modest cluster of streets around a central core. The roads that link it to the wider district run out through cultivated land and patches of tree cover, so the built area thins out gradually into the countryside rather than stopping at a hard edge.
Seen from above, the street pattern is informal rather than planned. Lanes bend to follow the ground and property lines, and short connecting paths fill the spaces between the main routes.
