Buzi lies on the western coastal plain of central Taiwan, in the Taichung area between the foothills and the Taiwan Strait. The land here is low and level, which gives the street pattern a practical, straightforward character: roads run in long straight lines, and neighbourhoods follow the outlines of former farmland rather than the curves of hills or rivers.
From above, the area mixes compact clusters of houses and shops with rectangular fields, small workshops and irrigation channels that have long been part of the plain.
