Cugnaux sits on the flat plain southwest of Toulouse, and from above it looks like a patchwork of quiet residential loops and cul-de-sacs threaded between a few longer roads heading into the city. An older village core is still visible as a small knot of tighter streets, surrounded by the looser geometry of houses and gardens added over recent decades.
The long runway of the Francazal airfield lies close by, one of the few perfectly straight elements in an otherwise softly curving landscape. Toward the east, the growth of the Toulouse metropolitan area pushes the built-up edge outward, while to the west more open ground still separates Cugnaux from its neighbours.
