Dayr Ḩāfir lies on the broad, flat plain east of Aleppo in northern Syria, in a landscape of cultivated fields and scattered villages. From above, the town is a compact cluster of low buildings and streets, arranged around the roads that meet here and lead toward Aleppo and other towns of the region. Its edges are sharp, with fields beginning right where the houses end.
The land around the town is mostly farmland, dependent on seasonal rain and irrigation, and the pattern of fields gives the countryside a faint, repeating structure on the map.
