Domont lies in the Val-d'Oise, about twenty kilometres north of Paris, on the northern slopes of the wooded Montmorency hills. From above, the town is a compact mix of older streets around its historic centre and later residential areas. On one side it stops sharply at the edge of a large forest.
The Domont map poster is defined by that contrast. To the south and west, the Montmorency forest forms a wide area of trees crossed only by straight rides and footpaths. To the north and east, streets, housing estates and a railway line connect Domont to neighbouring towns and to Paris.
The Montmorency forest is one of the larger woodlands close to the capital, and Domont has long been a place where Parisians came for the green edge.
