Erdemli lies on the Mediterranean coast of Mersin Province in southern Turkey, between the city of Mersin to the east and Silifke to the west. The district is known for citrus and greenhouse farming, and for a coastline lined with holiday homes. It also includes Kızkalesi, where a medieval castle stands on a small island just offshore.
On the map, the town follows the coast in a long band rather than a compact core. The coastal highway runs parallel to the shoreline, with streets branching off toward the beach on one side and toward fields and greenhouses on the other. Behind them, the ground rises into the foothills of the Taurus Mountains, cut by dry stream beds.
