Friendswood sits on the low, level prairie between Houston and Galveston Bay. From above, it looks like a web of looping residential streets, quiet cul-de-sacs and short collector roads rather than a grid. The main thread through it is Clear Creek, which winds along the town's edge in slow meanders. Its green, tree-lined banks break up the pattern of houses.
The town began in 1895 as a Quaker settlement, which is where the name comes from. It grew into a residential community spread across parts of two counties.
