Golden Valley lies directly west of Minneapolis, bordering the city along Theodore Wirth Park. Unlike the straight grid of the city next door, its streets follow a rolling, wooded landscape, bending around ponds, wetlands and small hills. Bassett Creek winds through the city on its way to the Mississippi, linking a chain of green spaces.
Two major roads frame much of the map: Highway 100 runs north to south, and Interstate 394 crosses the southern part of the city. Between them, residential streets form curving loops, and larger blocks mark office campuses and industrial areas. General Mills has its headquarters here, on a large campus in the city.
