Elbe riverfront
The Elbe sweeps along the town in a wide, smooth curve, with meadows along its banks. It is the dominant line of the composition and ties Heidenau visually to Dresden downstream.

Heidenau Map Poster & Print
Heidenau lies on the left bank of the Elbe, immediately southeast of Dresden, where the valley begins to narrow toward Saxon Switzerland. From above, the town is a long band of streets following the river. Railway tracks and a main road run parallel to the water, and residential districts climb the gentle slope toward the plateau above.
The Heidenau map poster is built around two waterways. The broad Elbe curves along the northern edge, and the smaller Müglitz comes in from the south through its own wooded valley and meets the Elbe in town. The grid of older industrial-era streets fills the flat ground between them, while newer housing spreads upward on the higher ground.
Heidenau grew as an industrial town in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with paper, chemical and machine works along the river and railway. On the heights above it is the Barockgarten Großsedlitz, a terraced baroque garden laid out in the eighteenth century. Its geometric parterres and axes show up on the map like a small formal drawing inside the looser town.

Müglitz confluence
The Müglitz valley cuts in from the south and joins the Elbe in town. Its narrow, winding course adds a second, more intimate waterway to the map.
Großsedlitz garden
The baroque garden's symmetrical terraces, avenues and basins form a crisp geometric figure on the slope. It is one of the most striking details on the poster.
