Iranshahr lies in Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran, in a hot, dry basin drained by the Bampur River. Water shapes the landscape. Date palms and fields gather wherever water can be reached, and beyond them the land turns to open plain and bare hills. On a map the town appears as a compact grid set in a wide, empty setting.
