Köthen Map Poster & Print
Köthen sits in the flat, open country of Anhalt, and the map shows it plainly. The historic centre forms a compact oval whose outline still follows the route of the old town walls, now traced by a ring of streets and green strips. Inside, lanes converge on the market square and the church, while the castle grounds occupy a distinct block on the edge of the core.
Outside that oval, the town spreads in looser layers of nineteenth- and twentieth-century streets. The railway is a major presence: Köthen became a junction on one of Germany's earliest long-distance lines in 1840, and tracks still sweep through in broad curves. Beyond the last houses, the map opens into large, regular fields, which makes the town's outline unusually crisp.
The town is best known for music. Johann Sebastian Bach served as Kapellmeister at the court of Prince Leopold here from 1717 to 1723, a period associated with much of his instrumental work. Köthen is also where Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, lived and worked. A Köthen map poster shows the compact plan behind those stories.

Castle grounds
The castle and its surrounding grounds form a separate, more open block beside the historic core, where Bach worked for Prince Leopold's court orchestra.
Railway curves
Lines laid from 1840 onward cross the town in long arcs and meet at the station, adding bold sweeping strokes against the finer street pattern.
