Kurchaloy is a town and district centre in Chechnya, lying east of Grozny where the plain begins to rise towards the foothills of the Greater Caucasus. Like many settlements in the region, it spreads outward in long streets lined with houses set in their own yards. On the map that produces a pattern of extended parallel lines crossed by shorter connecting lanes.
Small rivers run through this part of Chechnya from the mountains to the south, and the town's layout responds to them, with streets bending near the watercourses.
