Kurumbapet lies on the western side of Puducherry, a few kilometres inland from the grid of the old town and the Bay of Bengal shoreline. The ground here is flat, and the street pattern shows how the area has developed over time. Older lanes follow irregular lines around the village core, while newer residential layouts have been laid out in more regular blocks along the main roads.
Like much of the Puducherry territory, Kurumbapet has changed quickly as the city has spread outward. Farmland and water tanks have been partly replaced by housing, institutions and commercial frontage. On a map, that mix produces a varied texture of winding paths, straight plot lines and open patches where fields and ponds remain between the built-up areas.
