Longjing is in the far northeast of Chongqing municipality, in the mountainous region around the Yangtze's Three Gorges. The land here is steep, and the map shows it. The town stretches along whatever narrow, level ground the valleys allow. Roads switch back and forth to climb the slopes, and settlements cling to terraces and ridges.
