Malhada Map Poster & Print
Malhada is a town in the southwest of Bahia, on the banks of the São Francisco, the great river that runs through the Brazilian interior. It faces the town of Carinhanha across the water, and on a map the river is the dominant feature, a wide channel dividing the frame, with the streets of Malhada set along one shore.
The landscape around Malhada is typical of the São Francisco valley in this region: a dry climate, open scrub and pasture, and the river as a source of water, fishing and transport. The town is modest in size, with a small grid of streets close to the river and roads that lead inland to farms and neighbouring communities.
A Malhada map poster centres on the relationship between town and river. The São Francisco, with its broad channel and sandbanks, gives the map a wide, flowing shape, while the streets on the bank add a compact, orderly contrast. Printed in black and white, it is a portrait of life along one of Brazil's most important rivers.

Riverside streets
The streets of Malhada sit close to the water in a compact pattern, with the main routes running parallel to the river or leading away from it inland.
Across the water
On the far bank lies Carinhanha, so the poster frames two towns facing each other across the river, a composition few small places can offer.
