Mundelein Map Poster & Print
Mundelein is a village in Lake County, Illinois, north-west of Chicago, in a landscape of small lakes and wetlands left by glaciers. Its name comes from Cardinal George Mundelein, whose University of Saint Mary of the Lake seminary still occupies a wooded campus on a lake at the edge of town.
The map mixes several patterns. A short, older grid sits around the historic centre and the Metra rail line, curving cul-de-sacs and loops fill the later subdivisions, and lakes and forest preserves create soft, irregular gaps in the network. Major routes cut diagonally through, linking the village to neighbouring suburbs.
A Mundelein map poster works because the water breaks up what could have been ordinary suburban sprawl. The lakes give the design a set of strong, rounded shapes, and the seminary grounds add a large open space with its own careful layout of paths and buildings.

Glacial lakes
Several small lakes and ponds are scattered through and around the village. They appear as rounded white or dark shapes that break up the street network.
Rail and old centre
The Metra line runs through the historic core, where the streets form a tighter grid before loosening into the curving subdivisions beyond.
